Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas

Britain's twelfth-favourite doctor and author of smash hit This is Going to Hurt returns to New Zealand with his brand-new live show. Featuring entries from his bestselling festive diaries alongside all-new stand-up and Christmas songs, the show is a love letter to all those who spend the most wonderful time of the year removing babies and baubles (and chocolate wrappers, remote controls, and fairy lights) from the various places they get stuck. A hilarious pre-Christmas night out.

‘Funny, disgusting and moving tales with a festive twist.’ The Guardian
‘A sleigh-load of ho-ho-horror stories for long-suffering healthcare staff.’ Daily Express

    Cried with laughter

by Sue W on 17/05/2025Glenroy Auditorium - Dunedin

So real! Every one of the incidents could identify with. Didn’t stop laughing until the end where he cleverly brought us back to reality.

    Hilarious and harrowing

by Holly on 15/05/2025The Opera House Wellington - Wellington

I had no idea that part of the show would be him singing various medical parody songs - it was delightful. I had read all his books and was familiar with most of the anecdotes, but hearing them live is amazing all over again, as well as his impromptu adlibs. Rest assured that even if you are well-familiar with all his books, you will still have plenty of fun and surprises! I really appreciated at the end of the show him getting more serious and talking about the burnout and mental health issues that health practitioners face to an alarming degree, and talking about his own traumatic incidents. Bless him for doing this tour and opening the lid on such a close-lipped profession - I know many doctors, nurses, and other health workers are grateful for him saying what they wish they could.
