About

Following two sold-out seasons, the acclaimed lighting exhibition Darklight returns this April school holiday with its most immersive edition yet: The Hidden World, a luminous journey designed to spark curiosity, wonder, and discovery for all ages.

Created for families and design enthusiasts alike, The Hidden World invites visitors to look closer and uncover the unseen magic of light. From glowing flowers to projection on mist, it is a living, vibrant environment where art, technology, and imagination converge.

By day, the space radiates with colour, movement, and interactive installations for explorers of all ages.

As night falls, the atmosphere transforms, light deepens, soundscapes emerge, and the experience becomes an immersive after-dark world of reflection and sensory wonder.

Book your session ticket and wander at your own pace, discovering a hidden world waiting to be seen.

About Darklight

Darklight is an indoor light exhibition, reimagining how audiences engage with light and sound, using minimalism, mood, and spatial design to evoke deep emotional response. It is more than an exhibition; it is a living exploration of perception, presence, and possibility. More info on darklight.co(Opens in new tab)

FAQS

After three sold-out, wildly well-received events, Night Mayors return for an extra special fourth edition.

The series has quickly become one of Tāmaki Makaurau’s most exciting cultural forums, bringing together the people who make Auckland a place more of us want to stay. We hear from cultural icons about how they actually live, their biggest gripes, their boldest ideas for Tāmaki Makaurau — and what their platform would be if they ran for Mayor.

Night Mayors Volume 4 is immersed in Darklight, the indoor light experience taking over Aotea Centre this April.

Join us for a very special night time session inside the artwork, featuring panellists

Lisa Reihana (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Tūteauru, Ngati Hine, Ngāi Tūpoto) Artist, NZOM
Matt Liggins (Ngati Ruanui) Architect and Artist, Professional Teaching Fellow at Te Pare - Auckland University Architecture School
Gabi Lardies (Pākehā, Argentina) Editor, The Big Idea

Discussing how to survive and thrive as an artist in Tāmaki Makaurau with host Charlotte Ryan.
