About
Based on Roald Dahl’s much-loved story, Matilda the Musical is a dazzling celebration of courage, cleverness, and the power of imagination.
Bursting with wit, heart, and unforgettable songs by Tim Minchin, this award-winning musical tells the story of an extraordinary young girl who dares to stand up to bullies, challenge injustice, and change her world with one brilliant idea at a time.
Proudly produced by Hamilton Operatic Society, this production marks a special milestone: celebrating the Waikato’s newest theatrical venue with Hamilton’s oldest musical theatre company. For over a century, Hamilton Operatic Society has brought world-class musical theatre to the region, and Matilda the Musical continues that proud tradition with a fresh, joyful, and energetic production for all ages.
Packed with humour adults will love, inspiring moments for young people, and show-stopping numbers performed by a talented local cast, Matilda the Musical is a theatrical event not to be missed. From the terrifying Miss Trunchbull to the kind-hearted Miss Honey, this story reminds us that kindness matters, bravery counts, and sometimes a little rebellion is exactly what’s needed.
This is a limited season, running 27 June – 5 July 2026, so book early to be part of this magical celebration of theatre, community, and storytelling in the heart of the Waikato.
