Fat Freddy’s Drop Announce Based On A True Story 21st Anniversary Tour 2026

Doing it for the love of music, legendary band Fat Freddy's Drop are returning to the stage in 2026 to perform their ground-breaking debut album Based On A True Story.

The 51 dates across Australia, Aotearoa, Europe & UK will be Freddy’s first shows following the sudden death of founding band member Chris ‘MU’ Faiumu. The band is united in its decision to continue with this long-planned tour.

Lead singer Dallas Tamaira says, ‘It’s important for us to honour the intentions we had with MU and playing this album live is part of that.’

Based On A True Story was independently released in 2005, an album of 10 fresh slices of future funk, with surprises, fakes & freaky sidesteps. In a historic run, the album became Aotearoa’s Longest-Charting Album with 111 weeks in the Top 40, won eight NZ Music Awards and took out Giles Peterson’s Worldwide Music Awards in the UK.

‘This was the band’s first full length studio album and its success was the springboard for what has been an incredible journey together’, explains saxophonist Scott Towers. ‘We want to pay tribute to the music, to MU and the band he established. And, of course, to play to our fans around the world who have supported us through everything.’

Great concert in an awesome location I would go again. Only negative was that the que for the bar was way too long & the bus pickup from venue wasn't a very safe location, had to wait on the road.

Beautiful venue , but unfortunately they overbooked on the Saturday night and some people missed half the gig waiting in line for a drink . Venue 10/10 performance 10/10 organisation 1/10

  • Phenomenal but..

by HF on 02/02/2025Neudorf Vineyards - NelsonRating: 4 out of 5

Fat Freddy’s Drop - 5 stars, amazing as always! Neudorf Vineyard also 5 stars for atmosphere, it was a beautiful, intimate venue. Unfortunately due to a liquor licensing change, the vineyard weren’t allowed to sell wine by the bottle and were limited to selling 2 drinks pax - this created a massive line of over an hour long wait to buy beverages. Someone from the vineyard came around to apologise profusely for the wait and explain the licensing change (which was out of their hands). He said they won’t hold events like this again because of the licensing issue which is such a shame as it’s a truly wonderful setting. Despite the immense pressure, their staff were wonderful. A second bar would have been ideal (if it was allowed), and a second area for portaloos would also have been handy.

  • Absolutely Amazing!
